Topic: Gentle birth

The latest interview: HypnoBirthing ®
the way for a gentle and natural birth

Find out more about this unique childbirth in Switzerland in the interview. The HypnoBirthing instructors Heidi Heintz and Urs Camenzind from Cham report from their personal experience.

HypnoBirthing ® - the way for a gentle and natural birth

Would you, being a mother, like to have a gentle, natural, fearless and even pain-free birth? Would you like to get rid of any fears, doubts and uncertainties concerning birth?

Find out more about this unique childbirth in Switzerland in the interview. The HypnoBirthing instructors Heidi Heintz and Urs Camenzind from Cham report from their personal experience so that you can also let your wish of a natural and gentle birth come true. Their son Felix was born on 25.10.2006 as first child in Switzerland with the help of HypnoBirthing.

What is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing is a holistic prenatal preparation course of a special kind. Its particularity is the learning of self-hypnosis or deep relaxation as well as other effective methods that prepare the mother physically, mentally and spiritually optimally for a gentle, safe, fearless and natural birth. The method was developed in 1989 by Mickey Mongan, who is a hypnosis-self-therapist and mother of four. HypnoBirthing gives the mother the great-power and confidence to have a naturally built body which is ideal to experience a gentle, pleasant and naturally well going birth.

What does the pregnant woman learn in these special prenatal classes?

Relaxation techniques, breathing and self hypnosis techniques, techniques to replace the fear and tension with confidence, peace and well-being. Effective techniques for a shorter and more comfortable birth. The natural production of pain-relieving body substances. How she can get an intimate connection with her baby. An understanding that the woman's body is built in an ideal way for the birth. Where the totally false and frightening thoughts that pain should be part of a normal birth come from. Relaxation exercises during and between the contractions. How she can prevent a perineal tear. How fast and easy it is to be fit, beautiful and well-feeling again after giving birth, and much more.

How can one imagine a birth with self-hypnosis?

Let’s better listen to a happy HypnoBirthing mother: "What I experienced while giving birth with HypnoBirthing is similar to a waking dream. The condition is similar to when one is engrossed in a book or staring into a fire. I was accessible, in good health and completely relaxed. Anytime ready to influence the events. I experienced the birth under calm and relaxing circumstances. In fact I perceived the contractions but I was able to influence their extent in a crucial way. I witnessed the birth in calm and relaxed circumstances. Far away from fear and tension which cause pain. When my baby gently saw the light of day, this was the most beautiful moment of my life. A thoroughly happy birth experience I wish to every mother-to-be and to all babies. "Nicole Kirschner"

What does the pregnant woman achieve through HypnoBirthing?

Due to the deep embedding of thoughts, images and feelings in the sub consciousness of the mother-to-be, she learns to avoid the "fear-tension-pain" syndrome before, during and after birth! Thus she reaches a physical and mental relaxation, stress reduction, pain reduction, shortening of birth, well-being during birth such as lower or no use of analgesics. She is fresh, awake and in deep contact with her baby. Mother and child are again the protagonists in their natural birth movie. A much faster recovery phase occurs after the birth.

Heidi, how did you experience your own birth using HypnoBirthing?

After my first, very traumatic and painful birth, the pregnancy and birth to Felix was just great. All my fears that I had, had to disappeare! I wanted an absolute natural birth. Using HypnoBirthing I prepared myself like an athlete does to his big day. Without fear and full of self confidence, I went through the birth with my baby. Everything happened exactly as we desired it. This birth experience was so beneficial to me, that I wish every woman could experience it!

How can I learn more about HypnoBirthing?

Inform yourself on our homepage www.sanftegeburt.ch, visit a lecture or simply call us. We are looking forward to your call and are pleased to give you information to all your questions and uncertainties regarding prenatal preparation.

Interview with Rivella

The interview with Rivella

For over 50 years Rivella is part of Switzerland as the mountains, watches and the chocolate are. With an almost 100% popularity degree, it is popular with young and old. Rivella is also completely free from dyes and preservatives.

How was Rivella created?

By chance, the at this time 30 year old graduate student Robert Barth came across a recipe for a whey beer. Fascinated by the idea to develop from the whey - which is the transparent liquid that remains left from the caseation - a healthy and good tasting drink, he experimented until he finally had it: the original recipe of Rivella Red, which still remains unchanged until today. Under the name "Rivella", inspired by the Ticino place "Riva San Vitale" and derived from "Rivelazione", in Italian the revelation, he launched 1952 in the canton of Zurich, a soft drink that remains unique and unrivaled in its way until this day.

What is unique about Rivella?

For over 50 years Rivella is part of Switzerland as the mountains, watches and the chocolate are. With an almost 100% popularity degree, it is popular with young and old. In its composition on the basis of 35% serum and milk with a secret blend of herbs and fruit extracts Rivella is unique. Rivella is also completely free from dyes and preservatives.

Is it true that Rivella blue was the first light drink at all?

Yes, Rivella Blue Light was the first light drink in the history of European food. It was launched in 1958 in Holland and in 1959 in Switzerland, 25 years before the light wave from the U.S. spilled over to Europe. Crucial to the development of Rivella blue was the request of the Dutch Diabetes Association to Dr. Robert Barth to develop an appropriate Rivella for diabetics.

Why is Rivella especially valuable for breastfeeding mothers?

Rivella blue is very light. It only contains 7 kcal/dl and helps thus quicker to get back to the desired figure after pregnancy. It contains many valuable nutrients from milk and, thanks to a moderate carbonation it is also easily digestible. For nursing mothers, it is especially important to drink enough.

Why is it so important to drink enough?

Our body mainly consists of water. An adequate hydration is vitally important. Who drinks too little, is also less efficient, for example in school. Adults should drink daily 1 to 2 liters and children depending on their age should drink 7 dl (2 to 3 year-old) to 9 dl (7 to 9-year-olds) per day. Depending on the temperature or physical exertion the daily fluid requirement can rapidly increase several times over. Soft drinks such as Rivella are a welcome alternation from water and tea.

Why does the Rivella support the project "Babys im Wasser"?

The first weeks and months with a baby are a very intense and an emotional time for the young family. We are glad if we can support them on their way and accompany them with our beverages.

WELEDA baby care

The interview with Weleda

The high-quality care products from Weleda made out of all-natural substances provide the care to the mother and the child, which they need in this special period of life. They were developed in close collaboration with experienced midwives and pharmacists and are optimally adapted to the needs of expectant mothers and their children.

What is the difference between baby skin and the skin of adults?

Newborn do not have a horny layer yet. This is formed by the interaction with the environment and offers more protection against external influences such as chemical additives, bacteria and fungi. Until the horny layer matures, it takes almost 4 years. From the age of four baby's skin slowly begins to transform to adult skin. Baby skin also produces less sebum than adult skin, which can occasionally cause dry and flaky skin.

Why does Weleda recommend natural baby care products without mineral oils?

Mineral oil is a generic term for a mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons, which is educed from petroleum. It is not biodegradable. It forms a film on the skin and can clog the pores. Thus, the moisture and oxygen regulation is disrupted. Mineral oil also reduces the ability of the skin to eliminate toxins. With frequent use the natural lipids can be dissolved, leaving the skin to dry out quickly.

In contrast, plant oils provide an ideal moisture and oxygen regulation and are very suitable for the delicate baby skin. The vegetable oils that are used in the Weleda care products can easily be absorbed by the skin. The skin is nourished, maintained and strengthened.

What can I do against dry baby skin?

As the natural oils of the skin are being removed by soap and water, the baby should not be bathed too often. Adding Weleda Calendula cream bath to the water helps to keep your baby's skin soft and healthy. After bathing the baby it can be gently rubbed in with the warming Weleda Calendula oil or the hydrating Weleda Calendula Body Lotion.

How can I prevent diaper rash? Is there an alternative to baby wipes?

Diaper rash is usually due to wet diapers. But also the teething or a common cold can irritate the skin. Proper care in the diaper area is therefore particularly important. Through frequent changing of diapers, the skin contact with moisture can be reduced to a minimum. Furthermore, like this some air gets to the skin. While cleaning primarily water and fiber should be used. Wet wipes with chemical ingredients can irritate the skin. If needed, the diaper area of the baby can be cleaned with a little nursing Weleda Calendula milk or with Weleda Calendula Body Oil; this protects the skin and cares it at the same time.

Can a baby massage help with colic?

A gentle massage can help your child gain relief from stomach cramps. For this purpose, we use the Weleda baby linseed tummy oil or Weleda Calendula Body Oil. Before the massage, it is warmed in both palms. Then the belly is being massaged gently for a few minutes in a clockwise circle. The massage is completed over the left leg. The additional heat and the rhythmic movement help the bowel to find his own rhythm again; the accumulated intestinal gases can be released more easily. Colic and abdominal pain occur less frequently or are alleviated. Baby massages are generally recommended because they promote the healthy development of children. Studies have shown that premature infants gain up to 47 percent more weight by daily massages than children who are not massaged.

Topic: Baby sling

Interview with DIDYMOS about the topic “baby-sling“

Carrying is THE possibility to give the baby what he needs in the first months of life besides food, care and warmth, which is body contact and security. Physiologically as well as psychologically the carrying has a positive effect on the human infant, which indeed is known to be a "clinging young".

Why does carrying make sense?

Carrying is THE possibility to give the baby what he needs in the first months of life besides food, care and warmth, which is body contact and security. Physiologically as well as psychologically the carrying has a positive effect on the human infant, which indeed is known to be a "clinging young". The young mother can take care of the housekeeping without having a baby, who cries somewhere for feeling lonely as she simply carries it with her. Also you don't have to wonder whether the roads are suitable for pushchairs or not, with the baby in a sling, it is easy to take the tram or to go over hill and dale.

From which month on are babies being carried?

Babies can be carried in a sling from birth on. It makes sense that in the first few days (and weeks) after the birth of the baby the father carries it (if possible) so that the mother's pelvic floor can strengthen a little.

Who can carry the baby?

All caregivers can carry the baby. Be it the mother, the father, the Grandmother, the godfather or the carer in the nursery

What is it like to bind the sling?

We keep hearing that the binding of a sling is very difficult. This is not true. At the beginning it only needs one (or possibly two) binding modes, you must know. The binding of the sling is to learn as quickly as the tying of shoes: 2, 3 times of practice, and then you are able to do it blind wise. It is important that the binding goes according to the age of the baby and that the cloth is tied correctly, i.e. tight enough so that the baby is perfectly based in the cloth.

What goals are important to you as instructor?

The young parents should be able to bind 1 - 2 binding modes correctly. All other variants can be read by the parents in a detailed tying instructions booklet or they can watch the accompanying DVD and practice on their own, as soon as they have more practice.

What should be considered when choosing a sling?

The cloth should be woven in a way that it can only be stretched diagonally but not horizontally or crosscut. Only in such a cloth the baby gets the best grip. It is also important that the cloth is supplied with detailed tying instructions, like this additional costs (and time) drop off for sling courses before the cloth can even come into use. It is also advantageous when the cloth was dyed with heavy metal-free colors. Like this the young parents don't have to worry if the baby should ever suck on the cloth.
